Hydrotalcite (HT), a kind of clay mineral, has been proven to be an effective heterogeneous catalyst for the reduction of Cr(VI) in water. It has been reported that the catalytic properties of HT are related to the morphology, surface area, crystal structure, and composition of the materials. Thus, HT has been modified with alkali metal cations (Na(+), K(+), and Cs(+)). We use X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and zeta potential to characterize the obtained HT-based materials. The results reveal that the prepared HT-based materials are successfully modified with alkali metal cations, and all HT-based materials have a lamellar layered structure. The catalytic properties of HT-based materials for Cr(VI) reduction have been investigated, and we find that the reduction rate is significantly improved for the modified materials with K(+) and Cs(+). The optimized HT-based catalysts are further characterized by TEM and XPS.Family support and resistance to risk for alcohol use: exploring perceptions of family rules in early adolescence.
